<abstracts>In recent years, considerable support has emerged within the international community for broader, more ambitious climate change miitigation efforts. Among the leading innovations is the Regional Energy Savings Program. By devising locally-oriented plans, two European regions have put themselves on the path to energy efficiency and set examples for others to follow.</abstracts>

<abstracts>Oil prices have been volatile in recent weeks, with Brent prices trading between 65 US Dollars/bbl and 76US Dollars/bbl, as demand-positive news in the U.S. and Europe has been offset by concerns over the COVID-19 (coronavirus) Delta variant and its impact on oil demand, especially in Asia. Global economic activity firmed up further in July, as the global composite Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) came in at 55.7 (a slight decline from 56.6 in June). Services PMI outpaced its manufacturing counterpart, reaching 56.3, as large economies resumed reopening efforts. Russia's industrial production growth continued to moderate in July, having shown signs of deceleration since April. In July, core annual inflation continued to rise, reflecting mounting pressures from rebounding domestic demand, enduring supply bottlenecks, as well as higher global prices. Even so, in August, the ruble appreciated by 0.5 percent against the US Dollars, m/m, outperforming other emerging market currencies. The unemployment rate decreased by 0.2 percentage points to 4.7 percent (sa) in June. Banks’ key credit risk and performance indicators have remained largely stable, supported by the CBR’s policy response measures, including regulatory forbearance. Improving business confidence continued to stimulate demand for loans in July. Household lending continued benefiting from the subsidized mortgage loan program launched by the government in April 2020.</abstracts>

<abstracts>In May 2021, crude oil prices rose by 5 percent and continued to increase in June. The global economy continues to recover, with global growth expected to reach 5.6 percent in 2021. The number of new COVID-19 (coronavirus) cases in Russia has been rising since the beginning of June. On June 30th, Russia registered 21,042 new cases – more than doubling compared to the end of May (8,475 cases on May 31st). The most number of cases is attributed to delta variant, the mutation which is thought to be more transmissible and aggressive than the original virus first spotted in Wuhan in China in 2019. Yet the number of new cases is below the maximum levels reached in December 2020 (29,499 cases). The worsening epidemiological situation forced the authorities of Russia’s regions to introduce additional restrictive measures to prevent the spread of infections. Russia's stringency index climbed to the levels registered in the end of 2020 (as of June 17), putting pressure on economic rebound especially in services. In May, the average exchange rate of the ruble with respect to the U.S. dollar continued to strengthen in line with currency trends of other EMDEs and commodity exporting countries. Favorable prices for commodities exported by Russia and a more favorable perception of geopolitical risks supported the ruble. Economic activity was strong in April. Industrial production growth accelerated in May despite additional days off. The annual headline consumer price index (CPI) inflation remains elevated, in part due to a rebound in domestic demand, prompting the Central Bank of Russia (CBR) to raise its key interest rate by 50 bp to 5.5 percent on June 11th. Labor market dynamics continued to improve. In the January - May 2021 period, the federal budget's fiscal position improved amidst an economic rebound, higher oil prices, and a weaker ruble. The federal budget surplus increased to Rub312 billion, compared to a Rub274 billion deficit in the same period last year. In May, both household and corporate sector lending growth accelerated, supported by a nascent economic recovery and public support programs. Banks' key credit risk and performance indicators remained largely stable, supported by the CBR policy response measures, including regulatory forbearance.</abstracts>

<abstracts>The COVID-19 pandemic continues to disrupt activity across the world, casting wide uncertainty around GDP projections. Despite the protracted and uncertain nature of the pandemic, global GDP growth is forecast to recover to 4 percent in 2021 and to moderate to 3.8 percent in 2022 under baseline assumptions established in January 2021. The baseline recovery, however, is not sufficient to return global output to pre-pandemic projections by 2022, with levels expected to be 4.4 percent below pre-pandemic projections next year. COVID-19 has reversed hard-won gains in poverty reduction, with the pandemic expected to push over 100 million people into extreme poverty by the end of 2021. Accompanying the rise in extreme poverty is that of food insecurity, especially in light of the steep falls in household incomes due to widespread job losses – many of which are not anticipated to be regained this year. The pandemic is expected to have longer-term scarring effects on productivity growth and potential output, as the erosion of business confidence further weakens investment and as human capital accumulation slows due to a deterioration in health outcomes, extended school closures, and prolonged unemployment. Global trade continues to recover, but with wide variations across countries and sectors. Global financing conditions remain accommodative amid ongoing vaccination drives in major economies.</abstracts>
